Greetings, everyone! For most students, an excursion is simply a chance to escape the classroom. For us hostellers, however, it was something much bigger: an opportunity to leave the campus without having to explain where we were going. Our school had recently organized an excursion to Ranthambore, and what began as an exciting adventure soon turned into a memorable lesson in history, patience, teamwork, and, most importantly, the number of times a teacher can say, “Stay together!” The moment we left the campus, excitement took over. After all, hostellers do not get to wander outside every day. We were ready for an adventure, armed with enthusiasm, snacks, and absolutely no idea how many stairs awaited us.
The Fort, the History and the Stairs
The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly Ranthambore Fort. Walking through its ancient gates and standing beside its gigantic walls was fascinating. It was almost possible to imagine the kings, warriors and battles that had once occupied the very same place. The fort gave us a glimpse into a remarkable chapter of history and made us appreciate how much the world had changed over the centuries. But there was another historical fact we discovered that day: Our legs were not built for this. As we climbed stair after stair, some of us began regretting every packet of chips and every glass of Coke we had ever consumed. What had started as a historical exploration slowly became a personal battle between students and gravity.
Trinetra Ganesh Temple: A Spiritual Experience… and a Cardiovascular One
Inside the fort, we also visited the famous Trinetra Ganesh Temple. The temple was beautiful, peaceful, and deeply spiritual. Of course, reaching it required climbing what seemed like enough steps to qualify as a separate fitness programme. At this point, a few students were genuinely wondering whether we had signed up for an excursion or accidentally enrolled in a fitness camp. Still, the experience was worth it. Beyond the jokes and exhaustion, the temple gave us a moment of calm and allowed us to appreciate the cultural and spiritual significance of the place.
The Reward We Deserved
After surviving the fort, the scorching heat and what felt like several thousand stairs, our teachers had thoughtfully planned what can only be described as the greatest reward known to a tired student: a DJ and pool party. Nothing felt better than jumping into the pool and forgetting, even for a few hours, that we had to leave the next day. And then came the DJ. Somehow, students who had spent the afternoon struggling to climb stairs suddenly discovered an unlimited supply of energy. The moment the music started, everyone was dancing, jumping and enjoying themselves. Apparently, the secret to fitness was not exercise after all. It was good music.
More Than Just a Trip
Of course, none of this would have been possible without our amazing teachers, house masters, and superintendents. They guided us throughout the trip, listened patiently to our endless demands, kept us together despite our best efforts not to be, and made sure that we returned safely—with our bones, backpacks and dignity mostly intact. We would also like to sincerely thank the school for organising and planning this wonderful excursion. A trip like this requires a great deal of effort and coordination, and we are grateful for everything that was done to make it possible. Ranthambore gave us history, adventure, laughter and countless memories. It also gave our legs a workout they certainly did not ask for. But perhaps that is what makes an excursion memorable. We came to Ranthambore to expect an adventure. We left with memories, stories, tired legs, and a renewed respect for the phrase “Stay together!” Thank you!
